BATTLING THE FLU & COLDS

"The best way to cure anything is to avoid getting it." - Clell Fowles, Pharmacist.

So how do you avoid colds and flu?
BUILD THE IMMUNE SYSTEM!
How?

REST: Well rested people have twice as many infection-fighting antibodies as those who skimp on sleep. Aim for eight hours a night.

BE HAPPY: Negative emotions make you more likely to get the flu or colds.

RELAX: Praying or meditating daily lowers stress hormones that impair antibody production.

EXERCISE: Moderate exercise increases endorphines that make you happy and moves
lymphatic fluid, helping your body to remove waste more efficiently which enhances your immune system.

EAT MORE WHOLE, RAW FOODS, especially fruits and vegetables and less acid forming foods like meat, milk, wheat and sugar.

AVOID SUGAR: Just 6 teaspoons of sugar (the amount in 1/2 can of soda pop) will reduce the body's immune power by 25% over the next 5 hours! Only 75 out of 100 white blood cells are on "infection" protection" duty, the rest just sit there and quiver -overwhelmed and "drunk" on the excess sugar.

A frosted brownie contains about 12 teaspoons of sugar, as does a full can of soda. Consuming either will over the next five hours reduce immune power by 60%. That means that only 40 out of 100 white blood cells are fighting for you.

A piece of apple pie with a scoop of ice cream is about 18 teaspoons of sugar. For the next 5 hours you will be operating with only 15% of your white blood cell police force.

A Dairy Queen Banana Split could leave you with only 8 out of 100 working for you.

So, to enhance immune activity, it would make good sense to avoid foods and drinks that contain any "unfriendly sweeteners" - among them, sugar, sucrose, dextrose, honey, molasses, brown sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup.

Instead try: Sucanat, stevia, brown rice syrup, FruitSource, barley malt, blackstrap molasses, fructose, and agave nectar.

(Artificial sweeteners (Splenda, sucralose, aspartame, nutra-sweet, equal) shouldn't even be considered for those truly desiring health.)

ENHANCE IMMUNE ACTIVITY: The immune system can identify and eliminate the foreign virus' and eliminate them. So if we stimulate immune activity, we both prevent viral infections and help the body fight them. ECHINACEA, MIATAKE MUSHROOMS, GANODERMA MUSHROOMS AND UNA D'GATO have the ability to stimulate immune activity, to help the body be stronger against a viral attack.

INHIBIT VIRUSES at the Cellular Level: A virus only has life if it can "hijack" your cell's energy, disrupt it's cellular function and cause the cell to replicate the viral DNA or RNA. If our cells are strong, they have natural defenses that protect them from viruses. Those defenses can be strengthened.

Even if viruses enter a cell, if the immune system is strong enough to produce interferons which help inhibit viral replication, the virus can be stopped.

Natural help for both these processes can be found in ASTRAGALUS, ELDERBERRY, PAW PAW EXTRACT AND ST. JOHN'S WORT.

AID DETOXIFICATION: Raw lemon juice, garlic and yarrow.
